5 Amazing Rooftop Bars in Bangkok

bangkok-sky-barBangkok is quickly gaining a global reputation for its quality of rooftop bars. From inventive afternoon cocktails and the finest dining in town, to urban dance venues, international DJ sets, and ideal chill-out spots, the rooftop bars and restaurants of Bangkok have inspired an explosion of creative nightlife and idyllic date venues, many of which are currently the hiso hangout of choice for Bangkok’s fashion conscious residents, classy expats and in-the-know-tourists.

If you fancy the chance to look down over ancient and modern Asia, drinking with close friends, wooing a date, or impressing a client, to a backdrop of insane panoramic views, here are my favourite five rooftop bars in Bangkok:

Sky Bar LeBua State Tower

lebua-state-towerA well thought out fusion of class and innovation, the Sky Bar is a stunning rooftop bar found on the 63rd floor of the Dome, LaBua at State Tower. Not only is it one of the highest ‘walk-in’ bars (open to the public) in Bangkok, but it’s one of the highest open air bars in the world, with  360 degree views of the downtown, cosmopolitan Bangkok skyline in one direction, and the picturesque, serene Chao Phraya River to the other. If the views don’t win you over then you will need your pulse checking, but to push your pleasure buttons further, Sky Bar also offers a mean mix of colourful cocktails vintage wines and gourmet appetizers. The bar’s reputation was boosted further by its appearance in the Hollywood movie ‘Hangover II’. This surely is the coolest bar in Thailand.

Vertigo and Moon Bar at the Banyan Tree

vertigo-moon-barWhether you are looking for the perfect spot for a romantic date or the ideal way to put a memorable nightcap on the perfect day, Vertigo and Moon Bar on the 61st floor of the Banyan Tree in Sathorn, will do the job in style. This is a place to really show friends and lovers how you like to do things, with both a panoramic view of the Bangkok cityscape and suave and sophisticated decor, all set in an elongated bar and restaurant, taking up the entire length of this large roof space. Sky Bar Baiyoke Tower

Baiyoke-Sky-Hotel84-stories high, the Baiyoke Tower cuts an unmistakable silhouette on the Bangkok skyline, but the best views of the city are arguable found from the 84th floor revolving observation deck. Just one floor below you’ll find the Sky Bar, a truly laidback venue where you can sip on a Mai Tai cocktail, listening to the smooth, whispering sounds of Tony Bennett, looking out over stunning views of Bangkok cty and beyond. This may be a little more touristic and a tad tacky in comparison to some of the classier rooftop venues in the city, but the views are unbeatable, and a stop off at the Sky Bar should be on every newcomers Bangkok tourist tick sheet.

Three Sixty Lounge Bangkok

three-sixty-loungeThree Sixty is a rooftop bar with a difference, not only is it one of the few sky bar venues that offers uninterrupted views of the Chao Phraya River and downtown Bangkok, but it accompanies this with top-name artist and high profile entertainment. Big name blues and jazz artists come from around the globe to play a night or three at this swanky venue, with top quality live entertainment taking place every night of the year. Not only is Three Sixty one of the best rooftop bars it’s also one of the top jazz and live music venues in the capital.

Red Sky Centara Grand Hotel

red-sky-centara-grandOne of Bangkok’s newest rooftop bars, Red Sky might not be amongst the posh high rise hotels of Sathorn, nor can it offer epic views of the Chao Praya, but on the 55th floor of the Centara Grand, above the reconstructed Central World shopping mall, here you’ll find a unique 360 degree view of Bangkok’s commercial zone. The location really is the selling point of Red Sky, located at the heart of Bangkok’s shopping district, it’s perfectly positioned to escape mad rush of traffic (both road and foot traffic!), and unwind after a hard days shopping, sipping on a cool wine and tucking into a gourmet meal, taking stock of the vibrant city beating non-stop below you.
