Best Shopping in Chidlom

Malls of ChidlomChidlom is at the heart of Bangkok’s commercial district and home to some of the city’s most impressive hotels, office towers, and condominiums, and even more notably, a huge number of mammoth mega malls surrounding you from almost every direction you look.

This is THE area for shopping in Bangkok, whether you are looking for designer gear, one of a kind boutique fashion, bulk bargains, or simply window shopping. With so many malls, department stores and shopping outlets the problem can be which ones to choose. So to help you make the most of your time around Chidlom here is our guide to the best shopping in the area:

Central ChidlomCentral Chidlom

The direct access for the Chidlom BTS station is often enough to tempt many shoppers in, and those who do walk the sky walkway will find a seven-storey department store catering to urban lifestyle goods and fashion.

This is a pretty comprehensive department store with everything from toys and books to home décor. For the ladies there are plenty of health and beauty products to be found and lots of female fashion, shoes, and accessories, which range from high street to high-end, while for the gentlemen you’ll find plenty of male fashion, electronics, and gadgets.

The highlight of Central Chidlom is the collect of Thai designer fashion which can be located on the second floor, and features local labels such as Fly Now II, Disaya, and the quirkily ‘It Happened to be a Closet’.

Chidlom’s answer to Siam’s Paragon, Gaysorn is the areas hi-so shopping spot and a luxury one at that. With lots of elegant white marble floors and pillars, polished chrome fixings, and a queue of designer labels and high-end products, this is where you come if you are in a hurry to part with your money.

You’ll find many of the big posh international brands here, from Prada to Gucci, and Armani to Dior, as well as some of Thailand’s most popular designers including Fly Now and Kloset Red Carpet. You’ll also find some impressive jewelry stores, premier gadget shops, and it’s a great place if you are look to splash out on an expensive time-piece.

The highlight of the mall for me is the simple fact that it’s always very relaxed and laid-back, with far less shoppers running around (though due to the fact most stores are out of your average Bangkokian’s budge). For those who want to go all out the mall also offer a personalized service and the assistance of experienced personal shoppers.

Mercury VilleMercury Ville

Mercury Ville stands out from the other malls of Chidlom due to its funky bright red exterior, hanging over the corner of Lang Suan Street and Ploenchit road.      It’s also the most modern feeling mall in the area (which is saying something), with a somewhat cool but cosy feel to it.

This is very much a lifestyle mall with a heavy heavy focus on food! OK, so just about every mall in the area has a huge food court and several restaurants, well food is nearly all Mercury Ville do, but they do it well! Restaurants range from Burger King to the exclusive Water Library Restaurant on the rooftop.

The highlight of the mall is the mass of Japanese restaurants and eateries, including ‘On the Table’ a Tokyo styled café, Kagonoya, known for its excellent Shabu Shabu, and a pretty cool sushi joint in Sushi-do.

All Seasons ChidlomAll Seasons Place

Spread over two plush towers, most shoppers will pass by All Seasons Place assuming it is a hotel, and although it does lead to The Conrad Hotel, this huge building has a very wide variety of retails shops within.

Here you’ll find a bit of everything for the mid-to-upscale shopper, from boutique fashion and accessories to a wide range of sporting goods, and a few decent book stores too. For those looking for the finer things, you’ll also find some custom-tailoring, an art gallery, antique store, and a wine cellar.

The highlight of All Season Place has to be the prices. It’s certainly not the cheapest place in town, but it does offer a lot of hiso goods and fashion at more affordable prices, with some stores specializing in last season’s fashion, and lots of end-of-season sales.

Central WorldCentral World

This write-up wouldn’t be complete without mentioning CentralWorld. Not just the largest mall in the area, or even the largest in Bangkok, CentralWorld is the largest shopping mall in Thailand.

It would almost be easier to list the shops this mall doesn’t have than write down the stores you’ll find here. From top-end fashion and well revered Thai designers, to a whole host of high street names and familiar international brands, and everything any man, woman, or child could need.

Not only could you lose several days trawling through the shops, but there’s plenty of other things to do here too. Highlights include a 15-screen cinema, an ice-skating rink, a large edu-tainement centre for children, a boutique food mall, large food court, and a pretty impressive rooftop bar offering stunning views of the city and all your favourite cocktails.
